JourneyPure, a leading provider of addiction treatment services for patients from across the nation, today announced the addition of Stephen Loyd, M.D. to its senior management team as medical director of JourneyPure’s services in middle Tennessee, including four outpatient clinics and its residential facility JourneyPure At The River. A nationally recognized thought leader and clinician, Loyd has decades of experience in internal medicine, mental health and substance abuse services. Through a combination of inpatient facilities, outpatient centers and proprietary coaching services and technologies, JourneyPure delivers a full continuum of integrated, high quality services to assist each patient in becoming and staying healthy.
“We are honored that Dr. Stephen Loyd has joined the JourneyPure team and know that he will make tremendous contributions. Since many of JourneyPure’s patients suffer from co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders, Dr. Loyd’s medical expertise will be especially helpful in meeting the specialized needs of these individuals,” stated JourneyPure CEO and Co-founder Kevin Lee. “Particularly given the rapid increase in opioid and prescription drug addiction, innovative clinical approaches are needed now more than ever to successfully treat addiction and prevent relapse.”
Loyd’s extensive background includes most recently serving as Medical Director and Assistant Commissioner for Substance Abuse Services with the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. He previously served as Internal Medicine Residency Program Director, Chief of Staff and Education, and ultimately Chief of Medicine for Mountain Home VA Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee. An active member of numerous committees and task forces, Loyd was appointed to Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam’s Opioid Workgroup and Public Safety Subcabinet. He received his undergraduate degree from University of Tennessee at Knoxville and doctorate at Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University, where he completed his residency in Internal Medicine. Loyd has been in long-term recovery from opioids and benzodiazepines since July 9, 2004.
“I look forward to working with the JourneyPure team to help patients recover from addiction and lead the most fulfilling lives possible. What attracted me the most to JourneyPure is its impressive team, which is truly committed to helping patients every step of the way,” stated Loyd. “Importantly, I believe JourneyPure’s clinical approach is right on target. By providing evidence-based treatments along with dual-diagnosis to address co-occurring mental health issues, we can address the underlying issues that cause individuals to abuse substances.”
JourneyPure has been rapidly expanding its footprint in regional markets and currently serves patients from across the nation through six inpatient facilities in Tennessee, Kentucky and Florida, as well as numerous sober living homes and outpatient clinics.
